Dacoma x Airkeel

The Airkeel is a patented, air-filled appendage mounted to the bottom of a vessel hull. It swings in an inverse-pendulum motion from side to side, actively counteracting roll motions.

The swinging motion is optimised by using adaptive control based on Machine Learning/AI. Intelligent stabilisation fully ensures the best use of Airkeel in all situations, both in adverse weather and under varying load conditions of the vessel.

Safe and comfortable crew transfer. That is our mission.

Nuts and bolts

Compatibility – fits on most popular workboat types

The Airkeel stabilizer is available for monohull and multihull vessels. For catamarans, two Airkeels are installed, one on each demi-hull and are operated in tandem mode.
Our experienced engineers and naval architects can help you with the integration design and the paperwork for classification/certification.

Operational modes – safe and comfortable

In shallow waters or when approaching the harbour, the vessel draft is minimised by moving the Airkeel to a locked position on one side (monohull) or in between the two monohulls (catamaran).
In the case of a monohull, the master can select a parking position for either port or starboard side.

Delivery and installation - it’s easy

The installation of the Airkeel stabiliser is quick and easy. Depending on size, the Airkeel stabiliser is delivered within 3-6 months as a factory tested, turn-key system. It can be easily integrated by any experienced shipyard. Installation takes 1-2 weeks, both for refitted or new build vessels.
Our team of service technicians and engineers is also available for assisting the shipyard team.

Try our quick connect feature:
Boats of up to 15 meters, can be provided with a quick connect solution for easy road transport. This stabiliser version can be mounted and unmounted within 1 hour using the toolkit included in the quick connect package.

Work- & crewboats

Whether you work in exposed areas with high probability of tall waves and strong winds or in more sheltered waters, our Airkeel stabiliser can make a lot of difference for your operations.

Find out how the Airkeel can make your workboat more efficient by adding payload and crane capacity, while at the same time saving fuel and hence reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Crew Transfer Vessels

In the most exposed locations, crew transfer to offshore wind farms using Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) is not possible 100-160 days a year. While during the rest of the year, wind turbine technicians often suffer from motion sickness causing them to be less productive when operating.

Our CTV Airkeel stabiliser opens 25% of the bad weather window for operations, drastically reduces motion sickness and saves 5-10% fuel, hence reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Increase of operation window

Extend your operational window under adverse weather conditions by 25%. Increasing the roll stability of your vessel means increasing seaworthiness. The Airkeel adds 0.5 m significant wave height at sea states where other boats need to stay in harbour.
For details, have a look at our CTV case.

Reduce fuel consumption and C02 emission. The total ship resistance is reduced by 5-10% at semi-planing vessel speeds, where ship resistance is dominated by wave making. This corresponds to cutting CO2 emissions and fuel consumptions by the same amount.
